Thomas Brown Day

Georgia pours it on at the end to beat Ole Miss 45-17.

The Dogs found themselves in a fight (not like one of Vick's dogfights) this week against Mississippi, but on the legs of Thomas Brown & a revived defensive effort, pulled away from the Rebs.

Note: I didn't see the game, because it wasn't on TV, but I listened to it on the radio, checked the stats and saw the highlights on the Mark Richt Show. Please take this analysis with a grain of salt.

OFFENSE: A-
The first drive stalled quickly and we didn't move the ball after a great onside kick. There were a couple of drops and Stafford was off the mark a few times... however, we go the running game going and Thomas Brown ripped off 180 yard on 16 carries for an insane 11.3 yards-per-carry average. He also scored 3 TDs and busted a 50 yard run. He was THE MAN. Young pup, Knowshon Moreno also had a great game adding 90 yards & a TD on the ground and 28 more yards receiving. MoMass had a stellar catch for a TD. And apparently the blocking was better for most of the game.

DEFENSE: C
There is no other way to put it, we were getting whipped up front for about 2 & 1/2 quarters. Ole Miss' huge OL was opening up holes that you could drive a truck through and were gashing UGA with both of their RBs for long gains. Seth Adams was also dissecting the defense with precision passing. If not for a freak fumble on the goal line UGA would have found themselves in a 0-14 hole. After surrendering a forever drive- 18 plays & 9+ minutes- the Dogs finally got it together and put the clamps down on the Rebs. Brandon Miller's INT helped seal the deal. While it was nice to get 2 turnovers and follow them up with 14 points, the defense seldom got pressure on Adams and gave up a bunch of yards.

SPECIAL TEAMS: C+
Coutu bent it like Beckham and Prince Miller was there to catch a marvelous onside kick, but we didn't do anything with it except rest our defense for a few extra seconds. Mimbs was great on punts. Coutu made all his kicks. However, the kickoff coverage was awful AGAIN. Ole Miss was kicking squibbers and we didn't do much on kickoff returns. We didn't have any punt returns.

OVERALL: B-
Honestly, we can't play like this against most SEC teams and win. I was please with our running game. If we can do a little better pass-protecting, catching and making throws, our offense should be able to move the ball on just about anyone. Our defense is solid, but lacking big plays- turnovers, crushing sacks, fumbles, etc. We need to get better at putting teams in holes and then capitalizing when we do. Too many times we let Ole Miss (and other teams) off the hook on 3rd & long.
