State Champs... again!

DOGS make is 6 in a row over Tech with 15-13 victory!

Coach Mark Richt had plenty to celebrate with wins over rivals Auburn and Georgia Tech- helping to ease the pain of midseason lows.

The GOOD:

The Pass Defense was great! They frustrated Reggie Ball all day leaving him with poor (but typical Georgia game) stats: 6 of 22 (27.3%) for 42 yards ) TDs, 2 INTs, a fumble that was returned for a TD and he was sacked 4 times.

Ball's last interception was hauled in by Paul Oliver who had a great day- pretty much shutting down All-American WR Calvin Johnson (2 catches for 13 yards).

Matthew Stafford had a solid day passing for 171 yards 1 TD, 0 INTs and a pass for a 2-point conversion. His favorite target was Mohamed Massaquoi who 6 catches (as much as all of the Tech WRs combined) for 46 yards, the winning TD and 2-point conversion.

Georgia was 10/18 on 3rd down conversions which was an improvement.

The BAD:

Georgia's run defense was shaky at best as Choice pounded the Dogs for 146 yards on 23 carries- one being a go-ahead TD. The bright note was that just about every time the Jackets started moving the ball well on the ground they would turn to Ball to chuck up a deep ball to an overthrown Calvin Johnson and stall the drive.
We also had too many stupid penalties that killed drives or helped Tech get an advantage. You would think we had learned after Battle and Henderson's TD dives that we would get flagged and surrender good starting position on the kickoff, but apparently these guys aren't logic majors. Taylor repeated the offense and helped set up Tech points.
This was Reggie Ball's last game against UGA.
Speaking of "dropped balls", we had a few more in this game just like every game of the season except Auburn.

The UGLY:

Our Special Teams were horrible. Ely-Kelso had probably his worst day ever as a punter- a 36-yarder was his longest of the day. And he also missed a FG and left the Dogs with no other option but to score via the endzone. We also did nothing in the return game thanks to Tech's excellent punter.

It has been a trying season to say the least, but big wins over Auburn and Tech will put a smile on this Dog's face every time.
