Big Games, Sleeper Games and a Canidate for the President of the USA
Okay, by now I'm sure you have heard the term "Separation Saturday" and all the hooplah about the big games this week. To be sure, it is almost a blessing not to have a TV or cable, because having to pick between all the games (that are incoveniently schedule at the same 2 time slots) is almost a curse. Here are my rankings of those games- meaning the games that I think will either be the best or are the most important:
6 LSU
3 Auburn - should decide SEC West and keep one team in the hunt for the national title
11 Michigan
2 Notre Dame - we'll see which team is for real and which one is hype
7 Florida
13 Tennessee - winner takes the lead in the SEC East
17 Miami
12 Louisville - If the 'Canes lose, the season could be lost.
19 Nebraska
4 USC - 'Huskers need this one to get National legitimacy back, USC needs it to keep up with OSU and ND
15 Oklahoma
18 Oregon - which team is for real
24 Texas Tech
20 TCU - TCU needs this one to have a shot at being a BCS buster, but can they keep up with Raiders offense?
Outside of the Magnificant Seven there are some other "sleeper" games of interest. While, they don't have two top 25 teams playing, they have either significant conference implications or they are teams that should benefit from losses in the games above:
Clemson
9 FSU - Clemson is ranked 26 and would jump back into the top 25 with a win. FSU should benefit (unfortunately) from the loser of the Auburn-LSU game and could if Florida, ND or USC loses.
Iowa St
16 Iowa - big in-state rivalry, Iowa State could get in the top 25, Iowa should pick up a few spots with 3 match-ups featuring games where both teams are ranked higher than the Hawkeyes.
Michigan State
Pittsburg - Pitt is closing in on the top 25 and a win over a Big 10 team would help.
BYU
23 Boston College - Miami, Oregon, Oklahoma, TCU or Nebraska losses help BC move up.
UAB
9 UGA - you didn't think I was going to overlook the Dogs, did you? Seriously, the Dogs should move up with losses of higher ranked teams and with a certain loss to either the Vols or Gators, UGA will control it's destiny against the victor.
Also needing wins:
Boise St vs. Wyoming
Alabama vs. Louisiana-Monroe
Georgia Tech vs. Troy
Closing thoughts:
With Bush wrecking the GOP's chances at filling the next Presidency and Democratic front-runners like Hillary Clinton or Al Gore. We really need a better option. May I suggest ESPN's Dave Revsine.
Dave Revsine of ESPN had this to say,
"No. 1 (Ohio State) versus No. 2 (Texas) didn't quite live up to the hype. The pregame did, though. Along with the game between the same two teams in Columbus last year (something about this matchup apparently brings out the best in fans), the scene in Austin, Texas, on Saturday was the best I've experienced in my six years of road shows for "College GameDay" on ESPN Radio.
This excludes games on SEC campuses, which truly are a world unto themselves. If you live west of the Mississippi and north of the "Grits Line" (that portion of the nation in which grits are part of the morning buffet), please do yourself a favor and attend a game in the SEC. Immediately. But I digress."
